Wang Yi: China Is Ready to Work for Africa's Dream of Building

On January 10, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed of Kenya jointly met the press after holding bilateral talks. When asked why China is willing to assist Africa in building the "Three Major Network" of railway, road and regional aviation and invest in Mombasa-Nairobi standard gauge railway, Wang Yi said that China is ready to work hard to make Africa's dream of building high-speed railway network come true.

Wang Yi said that the cooperation between China and Kenya and other African countries is the mutually beneficial cooperation among developing countries and the mutual assistance among friends. In the cooperation with Kenya, China will first and foremost uphold the idea of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith" proposed by President Xi Jinping and properly implement the correct viewpoint of righteousness and benefit. Therefore, we should prioritize the development demands of Kenya and consider the wishes of its people, and that is a principle that we must adhere to. At present, what Kenya needs most is the infrastructure and we are willing to give them a helping hand. At the same time, the construction of Mombasa-Nairobi standard gauge railway is an early harvest of the implementation of the consensus reached by Chinese and African state leaders on the construction of high-speed railway network in Africa. When Premier Li Keqiang visited the headquarters of African Union last year, Chairperson of African Union Commission Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said that African people cherish a dream that one day the capitals of all African countries will be linked by high-speed railways. As a good friend of Africa, China is willing to make efforts to help African friends realize the dream. It is a century project that requires comprehensive planning and gradual advancement. I believe that, through the concerted efforts made by both China and Africa, we will create a "fast lane" throughout Africa for its development and prosperity and African people's dream will eventually be achieved.
