1. Today, Kenyan health experts and officials, with counterparts from over 20 African countries and Africa CDC, attended a video conference held by departments of health and customs in China, sharing knowledge and experience on combating COVID-19. Chinese experts answered and discussed questions from African experts on the conference.

2. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China's National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China's mainland is as follows:

(1) Excluding Hubei province, March 17 saw ZERO fatality and 12 new confirmed cases, all imported. ZERO local transmitted case has been reported for 5 consecutive days.

(2) In Hubei province, new confirmed cases remained 1, which was in Wuhan. Other cities in Hubei Province reported ZERO new confirmed cases for 13 days in a row.

(3) As of 24:00 on March 17(Beijing Time), 80,894 confirmed cases have been reported, including 69,601 cured cases and 3,237 fatalities.

3. Chinese researchers have completed clinical studies of favipiravir, a drug which shows promising clinical efficacy in treating COVID-19.

4. The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation, together with the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, jointly established the Global MediXchange for Combating COVID-19 (GMCC) programme at https://covid-19.alibabacloud.com/ where the Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment can be downloaded and shared.
