1. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China's National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China's mainland is as follows:

(1) March 9 saw ZERO fatality and 2 newly confirmed imported cases excluding Hubei province. There has been ZERO case of local transmission excluding Hubei province for 3 consecutive days.

(2) In Hubei Province, newly confirmed cases dropped to a record low of 17, all reported in Wuhan. Other cities in Hubei Province reported ZERO newly confirmed cases for 5 days in a row. 1,152 more patients were discharged from hospitals.

(3) 28 provinces (out of 31) reported ZERO newly confirmed cases.

(4) As of 24:00 on March 9 (Beijing Time), 80,754 confirmed cases have been reported, including 59,897 cured cases and 3,136 fatalities. 

2. Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Wuhan on March 10 for an inspection of the epidemic prevention and control work in Hubei Province particularly Wuhan. He met patients, frontline medics, community workers, police as well as volunteers during his inspection.

3. All mobile cabin hospitals in Wuhan have been closed as of March 10, as the number of COVID-19 patients continued to drop significantly. These hospitals have been operating for 35 days and treated more than 12,000 patients with mild symptoms.

4. Foreign consumer brands are resuming operations in China, as experts expect retail and entertainment to enjoy a robust rebound. Starbucks Coffee Co and fast food chain McDonald's have reopened 90% of their stores in China. Swedish home furnishing company Ikea has seen 16 outlets (over 50%) restore operations with modified hours as of March 9.
