PRESS RELEASE ON COMBATING COVID-19 OUTBREAK

1. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China's National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China's mainland is as follows:

(1)  March 4 saw ZERO fatality and 5 newly confirmed cases excluding Hubei province, including 2 imported cases. 

(2) In Hubei Province, 134 newly confirmed cases were reported, and 1,923 more patients were discharged from hospital.

(3) 26 provinces (out of 31) reported ZERO newly confirmed cases.

(4) As of 24:00 on March 4 (Beijing Time), 80,409 confirmed cases have been reported, including 52,045 cured cases and 3,012 fatalities.

 

2. Positive changes seen in consumption as the epidemic wanes

(1) According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the average daily sales of retail companies increased 5.6 % in late February compared to mid-February. In late February, sales of automobiles increased 14.8 % month-on-month, followed by communication equipment and home appliances, which increased 11.7% and 11.1% respectively.

(2) The growth is attributed to the effective control of the epidemic and the fast-paced work resumption. Market sales is expected to rise steadily as companies restore production and the lives of common people return to normal.
