PRESS RELEASE ON THE SITUATION OF THE CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC IN CHINA

According to Chinese health authorities, by 27th January 2020, 2,858 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been reported. The pneumonia situation has resulted in a total of 82 deaths, while 57 people have recovered.

 

The Chinese Embassy in Kenya is closely monitoring with the Chinese Community the entry of Chinese into Kenya. There's not a single suspected case in Kenya to date.

 

The Chinese side always puts the life and health of the Chinese citizens and foreigners including Kenyans in China above everything else, and will continue to take effective and timely measures to address their legitimate concerns.

 

To further contain the coronavirus epidemic, China has taken all-around strict measures including transport restrictions, extending the Spring Festival holiday, postponing school openings, cancellations of gatherings, temporary closures of public venues, personnel tracking and management, temperature detection at subway and railway stations, airports, etc. Passengers with abnormal body temperatures will be sent to the hospital.

 

More medical supplies and teams have been sent to Hubei to contain the epidemic situation. By Monday Jan. 27, 1824 doctors and nurses from other cities, provinces and militaries have arrived in Wuhan and some other cities of Hubei province treating patients. Together with them, large number of medical supplies are sent. Many medical equipment factories are producing medical masks and clothing around the clock to meet the needs of hospitals and pharmacies around the country.

 

The Chinese health authority is well communicated to WHO and all their efforts which have already been made are recognized by the organization.
