Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng Met with UNON Director Genera

Chinese Permanent Representative to the UNEP and UN-Habitat Amb. Wu Peng met with Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, new Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). Chief of Office of the Director-General Mr. Kazimiro Rudolf-Jocondo, Chinese Deputy PR to UNEP Xia Yingxian, and Deputy PR to UN-Habitat Tong Guichan were present.

Amb. Wu congratulated DG Bangura for her assumption of office, expressing appreciation to her for her efforts to promote the development of Sierra Leone – China relations during her time as Sierra Leone’s foreign minister, expecting her to deepen UN-China cooperation in her new capacity. Amb. Wu reaffirmed that China will give strong support to UNON, deepen and strengthen its cooperation with UN agencies, and jointly promote the building of a community of shared destiny for mankind.

On her part, DG Bangura thanked China for its support to her during her tenure as the special representative of the UN Secretary General on sex violence in conflicts, and its long-term support to multilateralism and work of the UN agencies, hoping to deepen UNON’s cooperation with China and increase their exchanges.

 

The two sides also exchanged views on global and regional issues of shared interest.
