China-Kenya Art Show Successfully Held in Nairobi

On May 12th, the Chinese Embassy to Kenya, Nanjing Bureau for Culture and Tourism, and Kenyan National Museum jointly held a China-Kenya Art Show entitled “When Nanjing Meets Nairobi” at the Taifa Hall of Nairobi University. Mr. Zhao Xiyuan, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, Hon. Shakeel Shabbir, Chairperson of the Kenya-China Friendship Group of the Parliament, Mr. Wang Dongqing, Deputy Director-General of Nanjing Bureau for Culture and Tourism, and Mr. Galgalo Rashid, Coordinator Sites and Monuments of Kenyan National Museums, as well as over 600 Kenyan and Chinese audience watched the show.

In his remarks, Minister Counselor Zhao said that China and Kenya enjoy time-honored friendship, with their exchanges and cooperation in education, science and technology, and culture growing rapidly in recent years. During the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing last month, President Xi Jinping and President Kenyatta met for the third time within seven months, offering historic opportunities for deepening and broadening China-Kenya cooperation. He believes that the two countries will seize the opportunities to bring China-Kenya exchanges and cooperation in various fields to a new level to benefit the two countries and two peoples.

Hon. Shakeel Shabbir expressed thanks to China for its strong support to Kenya’s cultural development, saying that culture is the common treasure of humankind. Kenya and China both enjoy a long history and splendid civilizations, offering broad prospects for their cultural and art cooperation. He believed that the show will serve as an important bridge for mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and reaffirmed his commitment to working together with China to make even greater contribution to Kenya-China people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Artists from China and Kenya presented acrobatics, singing, dancing, drama and magic show for the audience, winning rounds of applauds.
