Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng Met with Kenyan National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi

On May 7th, 2019, Wu Peng, the new Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, paid a courtesy call on Justin Muturi, Speaker of National Assembly of Kenya, and exchanged views on China-Kenya relations, legislative exchanges and other issues. Minister Counselor Zhao Xiyuan was present at the meeting.

Amb. Wu commended Hon. Muturi for his contributions to China-Kenya friendly relations, and extended his thanks for the warm reception given to Mr. Cao Jianming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress during his visit to Kenya. He also briefed the Speaker on the outcomes achieved through President Kenyatta’s visit to China for the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF). Amb. Wu said the two sides had intensified bilateral legislative exchanges and established closer legislative cooperation in recent years, ensuring the sound development of the Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries. The Chinese Embassy will continue to strengthen communication with the Kenyan National Assembly and promote legislative exchanges for more substantive achievements so as to boost China-Kenya friendly ties and pragmatic cooperation.


Hon. Muturi congratulated Amb. Wu on his assumption of office, and reaffirmed that Kenya attached great importance to China-Kenya Strategic Cooperative Partnership. He thanked China for its continued support to Kenya in economic development, education and other fields. In recent years, legislative exchanges and cooperation between the two sides have proved fruitful. Legislative leaders of the two countries have exchanged visits within a sound communication exchange mechanism, which is of great significance to the consolidation of public support for bilateral relations. The National Assembly of Kenya will continue to work with the Chinese Embassy to enhance the people-to-people friendship and deepen bilateral relations.
