Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng Meets with UNHCR Representative to Kenya Fathiaa Abdalla

On May 6th, 2019, Wu Peng, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, met with Fathiaa Abdalla, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Kenya.

Ms. Abdalla briefed Amb. Wu on the latest situation of the refugee issue and on the work of UNHCR in Kenya. She extended her thanks towards China for its continued support to the work of UNHCR in various countries. She hoped to strengthen cooperation between UNHCR Kenya and the Chinese Embassy in this regard so as to ensure the effective resolution of the refugee issue in this region.

 

Amb. Wu introduced the humanitarian assistance provided by the Chinese government to Kenya in recent years. He said China would uphold a holistic approach to address both its symptoms and root causes of the refugee issue. It is urgent to increase the humanitarian assistance to refugees, eradicate such root causes as regional conflicts, and promote common development to create favorable conditions for the return of refugees. The Chinese Embassy is willing to work with UNHCR Kenya on refugee protection.
