There is a long history of friendly exchanges between the peoples of China and Kenya. About six hundred years ago in China's Ming Dynasty, during his seven expeditions to the Western Seas, the great Chinese mariner Zheng He, with his grand fleet, had called at Kenya's eastern coast off the Indian Ocean and left many historical sites and legends. Kenyan people then also sent their envoys to visit China with Zheng He's returning fleet.

On December 14^th, 1963, just one day after Kenya gained its independence, China and Kenya established diplomatic ties and thereafter entered a new era of comprehensive exchanges and cooperation in fields of politics, economy, culture as well as education. The traditional friendship between the two peoples have hence been continued and enhanced.
