--Remarks by H.E. Dr. Liu Xianfa, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, at the Launching Ceremony of photo exhibition commemorating the Second Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership

(June 26th, 2015)

Honorable Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario Arero,

Honorable Senator Beatrice Elachi, Chief Whip of Majority,

Honorable Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Chairman of devolution,

Mr. Michael Munyao, Chairman of China-Africa Friendship Association--Kenya Chapter,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning! Today, after two special rains in the past two days, we are gathered here at one of the most beautiful building in Kenya; the National Museum of Kenya, to jointly launch the "New Start, New Achievements and New Future" photo exhibition, commemorating the second anniversary of the Establishment of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership. First of all, I wish to welcome all distinguished guests and friends and extend my most heartfelt welcome!

In fact, I know today is another special day for us.Two days ago, Kenya topped the medal standings with 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze medals as the curtain fell on the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing and became the first African country to win the IAAF World Championships since its inception in 1983. I know there are many reasons for the great historical achievement by the Kenyan delegation.

One reason is that it was in Beijing. Reason two is that the team was inspired by many historical records in recent years. Three is that the government through Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario was there to support and provide leadership.

The Chinese Embassy is holding this photo exhibition in order to commemorate the second Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership and review the achievements of the bilateral cooperation ever since Over 50 in political, economic and cultural fields between the two countries over the past two years, but to also demonstrate the bright future of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership. I believe that this exhibition will be a window of opportunity for our Kenyan friends, including the youth to better understand the past, present and future of China-Kenya relationship.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Two years ago, the Establishment of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership brought the bilateral relations to new starting point.

The Chinese and Kenyan people enjoy a long-standing friendship. Over 600 years ago, the Chinese navigator, Zheng He, visited the east coast of Kenya four times during his seven voyages to the western oceans and left many beautiful stories and historical footprints. In modern times, both as victims of western colonialism and aggression, Chinese and Kenyan people have encouraged and supported each other to achieve national liberation and independence. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, China and Kenya bilateral relations have grown in a stable manner while the peoples of both countries are enjoying a deepening friendship over the past 52 years.

On August 18, 2013, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta paid a successful state visit to China and opened a new chapter in bilateral relations of the two countries. This was not only H.E. President Kenyatta's first state visit outside Africa, but also the first time the two presidents had met each other after taking office. With political foresight, President Xi Jinping and President Kenyatta jointly established the China-Kenya comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring equality, mutual trust and mutual benefit. Since then bilateral relations between the two countries moved fast forward at a new height.

Ladies and gentlemen,

In the past two years, thanks to great efforts from both sides, the China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership has made fruitful achievements.

Both countries have been keeping frequent high-level exchanges of visits and deepening political mutual trust. In May 2014, the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang paid a successful visit to Kenya. He and president Kenyatta signed a series of agreements on infrastructure, agriculture, finance, science and technology and wildlife protection with which enormously enhanced the China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership. Under the guidance of the two Presidents, a bilateral steering committee has been set up with high-level frequent visits and deepening cooperation taking place thereafter.

Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has achieved magnificent results. In 2014, our bilateral trade volume reached 5.09 billion USD, increasing by 53% than the previous year; in the first half of 2015, the trade volume reached 2.9 billion USD with a 65% increase. China has become Kenya's largest source of financing, largest construction project contractor and second-largest trade partner. Currently, a large number of key projects such as SGR are under construction bringing practical collaboration to a new height.

The cultural and people-to-people exchanges have grown quickly and the social basis of our bilateral relations enhanced. Four Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Class have been established in Kenya making her among African countries with the most Confucius Institutes. Every year the Chinese government provides over 500 government scholarships and training opportunities. Many Kenyans are keen to study in China for higher degrees. China has become the Kenyan's second largest tourist source country from Asia with more and more Chinese tourists travelling to Kenya every year. Recently the China-Africa Joint Research Centre was officially launched. The agricultural crop molecular laboratory project in Egerton University is making steady progress. We are expecting more cooperation in science and technology between the two countries.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Looking forward, under the guidance of China-Kenya Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership, China and Kenya will meet a new future.

Under the guidance of the two Presidents and with the joint efforts of the two peoples, the mutually beneficial cooperation has deepened; common interests integrated and the concept of friendship is more and more popular. Our bilateral relationship has become the role model of China and other developing countries. Kenya has been listed among first African countries with which China is conducting out infrastructure, information and industrial cooperation, offering Kenya a broader vision of future development.

The two sides should seize the historic opportunity, firmly grasp the big picture of development and work on enhancing new fields, making new advantages and forging new highlights. China will continue to uphold the four-word policy of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith" and a balanced approach to interests and principles proposed by President Xi Jinping. China also ready to work closely with the Kenyan side to collaborate in seven fields namely, agricultural modernization, infrastructure construction, industrial transfer, renewable energy, ecological environmental protection, cultural tourism and the maintenance of peace and security.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The bilateral relations of the two countries are better than any time in history. We are at the transformation time. There goes a Chinese old saying"The fire burns high when everybody adds wood to it. ". There is another African idiom "if you want to go fast, walk alone; and if you want to go far, walk together". Let us work hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder to promote China-Kenya comprehensive cooperative partnership based on equality, mutual trust, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, open up new prospects.

Finally, I wish the exhibition a success! We welcome more Kenyan friends to come and see the exhibition!

Thank you all!  Asanteni Sana!
