My Fellow Chinese,

Friends from the Media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon.

Today, we are gathered here to remember the victims of the Garissa University College terrorist attack, and to show our love and solidarity to their families, as well as the Kenyan people.

The hideous attack on innocent students has left a painful scar not only in the heart of the victims' families and the Kenyan people, but also on all peace-loving people around the world. In China, from the very top leadership to the grassroots, people showed their anger towards terrorism and their sympathy to the victims.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Likeqiang sent condolence letters to H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and through him to the families of the victims. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his condolence to his counterparts Hon. CS Amina Mohamed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the terrorist attack immediately after it happened.

Many ordinary Chinese showed their condolences and support to the Kenyan people through internet. The message they wanted to convey to Kenyan brothers and sisters is very clear, " We stand with you". The faculties and students in Donghua University of China, who has partnered with Moi University in setting up the forth Confucius Institute in the latter recently, together with the Chinese faculties in this Confucius Institute, donated a total sum of Ksh. 720,000 to their Kenyan friends shortly after the terrorist attack.

The Chinese nationals living in Kenya, who breathe the same air and drink the same water with the fellow Kenyans, felt the pain as of themselves. Under the slogan of "Love for Kenya", the Chinese community here organized a large scale of donation for the family of the victims and those injured as they fight to recover.

Today, we are going to hand over the total sum of over Ksh. 6 million to the esteemed Moi University, and through Chairman Prof. Kinyamaria and Vice Chancellor Prof. Mibey, to the victim families of the Garissa University College attack. The money has been raised by Kenya China Economic and Trade Association, Kenya Overseas Chinese Association, China General Chamber of Commerce in East Africa, The Chinese Embassy in Kenya and myself.

As the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, I'd like to express my sincere thanks to the above-mentioned organizations and my embassy staff, for their warmhearted action.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I believe all of you have been witnessed the friendship and brotherhood between our two governments and peoples. The friendship between us is not established today, it started 600 years ago. The bond between us are not only roads and bridges, but also love and affinity.

For the past decades, China and Africa have gone through thick and thins together and become a community of shared destiny, with deepened traditional friendship, increased political mutual trust and closer practical cooperation in various areas. The policy of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith", put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, will always be the guideline of our bilateral relations.

My fellow Chinese friends, I thank you for helping me to perform as goodwill Ambassadors in Kenya. I encourage you to do more for the strengthening of China-Kenya people to people friendship.

My dear Kenyan friends, I thank you for supporting my fellow Chinese in establishing their second homes in Kenya. I hope you will further deepen your friendship and brotherhood in the future.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. The fund the Chinese community raised today for the affected Kenyan families is once again, a reflection of the brotherhood of our two peoples. However, it is obviously only one of the many actions that the Chinese community has taken, is taking and will take. In the future, the peoples of China and Kenya will continue to face all the challenges together, stand side by side and shoulder by shoulder.

Thank you all.
