Speech by H.E Ambassador Liu Guangyuan at Xinhua-Shanghai World Expo Photo Exhibition
(Kenyatta International Conference Center 6th Nov 2010)
2010-11-08

Your Honorable, Mr. Vice President Musyoka,

Mr. Wang Chaowen, Director General of Xinhua News Agency Africa Headquater,

Distinguished guests,

Dear friends,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon.

It is my great pleasure to attend the Xinhua-Shanghai World Expo Photo Exhibition. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition. I would like to thank Mr. Wang Chaowen for making this beautiful exhibition happen. I would also like to thank Vice President Musyoka for joining us at the exhibition to celebrate the just concluded Shanghai Expo .

Shanghai Expo has provided China with the opportunity to show the world its brilliant culture, its fast development and its bright future. In total, more than 70 million people from all around the world visited Shanghao Expo from May to October this year. Shanghai Expo also presents a platform to promote the friendship between Chinese people and the rest of the world.

The participation of the African countries is the most successful story of Shanghai Expo. By visiting Africa joint pavillion, Chinese people gained a better understanding on Africa's great civilization and African people's achievements in the economic, social and cultural development. I am sure there will be more Chinese people coming to Kenya after they visited the beautiful Kenya Pavillion in Shanghai Expo. Shanghai Expo also further promoted exchanges and cooperation between China and African countries. Many African heads of State, including Kenyan President Kibaki, visited China and attended various activities in Shanghai Expo.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Kenya is one of the most important and promising country on the continent of Africa. As Kenya's long-standing friend, China is happy to see that Kenya has been beaming with vigor and vitality after it launched the development blueprint Kenya Vision 2030. China is also happy to see that Kenya has maintained steady and fast economic growth over the years. The promulgation of the new consititution laid a solid foundation for Kenya's political and social progress. Kenya is ready to fulfill its great vision and rise to a new level of development. I do believe that in the near future Kenya will become a shining star in Africa and an inspiration to many other countries with its economic growth, harmonious society and prosperous people.

China has achieved rapid economic and social progress in the past 30 years. But with 140 million people living in poverty and per capita GDP ranking 104th in the world, China still remains as the biggest developing country on earth. Although China is confronted with many difficulties and challenges, solidarity and cooperation with Kenya and other African countries is always the very basis and point ot departure of China's foreign policy. We will endeavor to promote Kenya and Africa's development with our own development. We will seek for common prosperity with our African friends.

China is committed to supporting Kenya’s social and economic development. The Chinese government and people will continue to work hand in hand with the Kenyan government and people to further advance the mutual beneficial and productive cooperation. As the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, I will spare no efforts to further broaden and deepen the good relationship between our two great countries.

With that I wish Xinhua-Shanghai World Expo Photo Exhibition every success. I also wish the beautiful photos on the big TV screens bring China closer to you.

Asante Sana (Thank you very much)!
