Chinese Learning Courses Will Soon Be Available in the Confucius Institute at Nairobi University

A delegation from China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language paid a working visit to Kenya from April 26 to April 29,2005. The delegation headed by Mr. Wan Luxin had a fruitful dialogue with Mr. Kajumbi, senior deputy secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The delegation also had a detailed discussion with officers and professors from Nairobi University. 

This visit marks the establishment of Confucius Institute has come to a speeding-up stage. Nairobi University has prepared classrooms, and the Chinese side will soon send experienced teachers and necessary equipment to Kenya. The project to set up such an institute started since 2004, when the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Republic of Kenya reached the Agreement on Collaboration in Establishing Confucius Institute at Nairobi University. 

Confucius institute, the first of its kind in African Continent, plans to offer certificate courses in September or October this year. Anyone who is interested in the courses may contact the Education Section of Chinese Embassy or the College of Humanities and Social Science of Nairobi University.
