1. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China’s National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China’s mainland is as follows:

(1)Excluding Hubei province, March 15 saw ZERO fatality and 12 newly imported confirmed cases. ZERO local transmitted case has been reported for 3 consecutive days. All the patients have been cured and discharged from hospital in 13 provinces.

(2)In Hubei province, newly confirmed cases remains 4, all in Wuhan. Other cities in Hubei Province reported ZERO newly confirmed cases for 10 days in a row.

(3)As of 24:00 on March 15 (Beijing Time), 80,860 confirmed cases have been reported, including 67,749 cured cases and 3,213 fatalities.

 

2. Prevention and control measures on cross-border transmission

Recently WHO has declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Against this backdrop, importation of cases from overseas has become a major risk for China.

Aimed for effective control of the imported cases, Beijing Capital International Airport has conducted quarantine checks on all inbound flights in an isolated zone starting on Sunday. All international arrivals in Beijing are required to be isolated at designated facilities for 14 days.

Other local governments in China also have taken some inspection, quarantine, prevention and control measures on international arrivals in accordance with laws and regulations.

These measures apply equally to Chinese and foreign citizens. The legitimate concerns of those affected will be fully accommodated and they will get necessary assistance.

As the situation evolves, such measures will be adjusted promptly to keep up with the changing conditions.
