1. China continues to cooperate with international community including Kenya

(1)Kenyan confirmed its first case of COVID-19, a Kenyan citizen travelling back from the US.

This is a more important and urgent time for all countries to step up communication and cooperation to jointly fight the disease and safeguard public health security. China continues to stand with Kenya.

(2) Chinese government has offered 2000 diagnostic kits to AU and stands ready to offer more support and assistance to African countries in need.

(3) A 9-member team of Chinese medical experts, along with 31 tons of medical supplies, arrived in Italy on March 12. It is the 3rd Chinese expert team sent abroad following those to Iran and Iraq.

2. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China’s National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China’s mainland is as follows:

(1) March 12 saw 8 newly confirmed cases (5 in Hubei) and 7 fatalities (6 in Hubei). This is the first single digit increase in both newly confirmed cases and fatalities across the country.

(2) In Hubei Province, all cities except Wuhan reported ZERO newly confirmed cases for 8 days in a row.

(3) 28 provinces (out of 31) reported ZERO newly confirmed cases.

(4) 70% of patients in China have recovered.

(5)As of 24:00 on March 12 (Beijing Time), 80,813 confirmed cases have been reported, including 64,111 cured cases and 3,176 fatalities.

3. Work and life in China gradually returning to normal

In China excluding Hubei Province, over 60% of SMEs have resumed work, more than 95% of large companies across China have resumed normal production. Over 80% of company employees have returned to work.
