1. Briefing on COVID-19 cases in China

According to China's National Health Commission and the State Council inter-agency task force, the latest development of COVID-19 cases in China's mainland is as follows:

(1)  March 5 saw 1 fatality and 17 newly confirmed cases excluding Hubei province, among which 16 were imported cases and only 1 was local transmission.

(2) In Hubei Province, 126 newly confirmed cases were reported in city of Wuhan, ZERO in other cities. 1,487 more patients were discharged from hospitals.

(3) 26 provinces (out of 31) reported ZERO newly confirmed cases.

(4) As of 24:00 on March 4 (Beijing Time), 80,552 confirmed cases have been reported, including 53,726 cured cases and 3,042 fatalities.

2. China's cooperation with international community

China has established close communication mechanisms with organizations such as WHO, EU, AU, Caribbean Community, ASEAN, and countries experiencing serious outbreaks or with relatively fragile health systems. Next China will enhance technical exchanges with the international community, share  prevention experience and updated treatment guidelines, and send medical experts of China's Red Cross Society and CDC abroad for further cooperation as per requests from relevant countries.

3. Progress on COVID-19 vaccines

(1) According to National Health Commission, some COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be ready for clinical trial or emergency application in April.

(2) There are currently 8 research institutions in China working on the development of COVID-19 vaccines along 5 technical routes. Many of them have entered animal trials.

(3) All research on vaccines is carried out according to relevant laws, standards and norms and the research institutions and experts have maintained communication with the WHO.

4. Thanks to the gradual restoration of delivery service in Wuhan city, the parcels of assorted food including tea, coffee, powdered milk and nuts etc, which the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, Kenyan Foreign Ministry and the Kenyan Embassy in China together purchased and packed for the Kenyan students in Wuhan, have mostly been delivered to their hands.
