PRESS RELEASE ON COMBATING THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

According to Chinese health authorities, as of 20:30(Beijing Time), 2nd Feb. 2020, 14,489 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in China mainland have been reported, including 304 fatalities, 442 cases of patients cured and discharged from hospitals.

With utmost openness and promptness, the Chinese government is working closely with the WHO on the development of the epidemic. The WHO declared the 2019-nCov epidemic as PHEIC however disfavored imposing travel or trade restrictions on China. The announcement signifies a new starting point for international collaboration to combat the enemy of global health. The WHO reiterates its confidence in China's capacity to control the outbreak.

 

According to the Press Statement by CS Health yesterday, the suspected case of novel coronavirus under surveillance at KNH has been CLEARED. In addition, according to the Press Statement by Ministry of Health, three persons (two in Nairobi, one in Mombasa) are under investigation for the coronavirus and the primary results are NEGATIVE. The Chinese Embassy in Kenya will follow the cases very closely.

 

The Chinese Embassy in Kenya keeps monitoring with the Chinese Community the entry of Chinese nationals into Kenya. We have notified all Chinese nationals in Kenya to take strict prevention and control measures and report their situations. We have required all Chinese Companies to monitor their employees coming back from China to isolate themselves for 14 days even they have no symptoms.

 

The Embassy worked with MFA of Kenya and Kenyan mission in Beijing to keep close contact with Chinese competent authorities monitoring the status of Kenyan nationals in China, and in particular Kenyan students in Wuhan City. The Embassy will continue providing assistance for those in need within our capacity.
